Welcome to Year 4!

Here in Year 4, the class is taught by Miss Millington and Miss McGuinness. We are also very lucky that we have Miss Mellor working with us during various sessions throughout the week. Miss McGuinness teaches the class on Monday and Tuesday followed by Miss Millington from Wednesday to Friday.  We work closely together and love seeing the children progress throughout the academic year.

Year 4 is exciting as it provides pupils with their first opportunity to start learning an instrument. They have weekly lessons with a professional music teacher and begin learning this new skill together.  We also take part in many educational visits including a theatre trip, a visit to our local history study of Chester in relation to the Roman influence and a residential to PGL. This provides children with a two-night stay over where they can complete many outdoor, adventurous activities and team building tasks. It is always a highlight of the year!

Our weekly routines consist of reading diaries being collected in on Mondays and homework being sent out on Wednesdays, expected to be returned by the following Monday. This will be either a Literacy or Maths task alongside weekly spellings. Children are also expected to play on Times Table Rock Stars (TTS) regularly to help coincide with our learning of the times tables. This is a particular focus in class as children will take part in the government multiplication tables check in June. PE days are Monday and Thursday and children also take part in their music lessons on a Tuesday, so please remember your instruments if you take them home!

We focus on how electricity works in Science alongside the different states of matter. Children also always particularly enjoy our Geography enquiries when learning about mountains and volcanoes. Some other enquires we complete include the focus on the Roman Empire in History and our skills and strengths in PSHE. We aim to make Year 4 a fun, safe and engaging space for our pupils and hope they thrive throughout the year!
